Interview:
Annick Blanc,
writer/director,
"Hunting Daze"
In Hunting Daze, writer/director Annick Blanc’s dark comedy about toxic masculinity and the dangers of groupthink, a young woman tests the theory that the strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack. After being stranded in the middle of nowhere, a stripper accepts a ride back to the cabin where she had entertained a bachelor party the previous evening. Bernard, the alpha male of the group, refuses to allow Nina to stay with them unless she undergoes an initiation ceremony. This includes participating in their hunting trip. Nina agrees to Bernard’s demands but becoming part of the group takes on greater complications when an immigrant of color, Doudos, unexpectedly arrives at the cabin. The cast is led by Nahéma Ricci as Nina; Bruno Marcil as Bernard; and musician Noubi Ndiaye as Doudos. Hunting Daze screens as part of the SXSW Film & TV Festival’s Midnighter section at 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. March 14 at the Violet Crown Cinema. Montreal-based filmmaker Annick Blanc makes her feature directorial debut with Hunting Daze. Aired: March 13, 2024. Web site: https://schedule.sxsw.com/ |
