"Testimony of Ana"
Directed by Sachin Dheeraj Mudigonda, the short documentary Testimony of Ana recounts the terrifying campaign of terror waged in 2017 against a tribal woman in India accused of being a witch. Mudigonda allows Anaben Pawar to explain in her own words how she endured psychological, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of a witch hunter hired by her neighbors to drive her out of their rural village in Gujarat. Testimony of Ana will stream as part of the Indie Meme Film Festival’s Shorts D: A Matter of Survival package during the festival’s virtual programming, which runs April 22-24. The documentary won the Indie Meme Film Festival’s Audience Choice Award for the Best Short Film. Born in India, former engineer Sachin Dheeraj Mudigonda is currently a grad student at UT’s Department of Radio-Television-Film. He previously directed the 2019 short The Bubbleman and is presently completing work on his thesis film.
