Interview:
Keith Thomas,
writer/director,
"The Vigil"
![]() Writer/director Keith Thomas combines his rabbinical studies with his experience working in medical research for The Vigil, a religious chiller that borrows heavily from Jewish theology. Dave Davis stars as Yakov Ronen, a former rabbinical student grappling with the emotional and psychological trauma of watching his young brother die. Hard up for cash, Yakov agrees to sit shiva as a paid shomer. What Yalov does not know is that the deceased endured decades of torment by a demon known as a Mazzik. And now the Mazzik wants to attach itself to Yakov. The Vigil costars the late Lynn Cohen as the deceased’s widow Mrs. Litvak. The Other Worlds Film Festival will host a virtual preview engagement of The Vigil from Jan. 28-Feb.2 in advance of its Feb. 26 theatrical, digital, and VOD release. Writer/director Keith Thomas makes his directorial debut with The Vigil. He is currently developing a TV series based on The Vigil. He will next direct a new adaptation of Stephen King’s Firestarter for Blumhouse Productions that will star Zac Efron.
