SXSW Film & TV Festival
This year’s SXSW Film & TV Festival runs March 8-16 at various Austin venues. The festival opens March 8 with the remake of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake and closes March 16 with the Anne Hathaway May-December romance The Idea of You directed by SXSW veteran Michael Showalter. Babe, Civil War, The Fall Guy, Immaculate, Monkey Man, and Y2K round out the Headliners. Films with Austin and Texas ties include the Zellner Brothers' Sasquatch Sunset, Greg Kwedar’s Sing Sing, starring Rustin Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo, the Elizabeth Avellán-produced dramedy Switch Up, and the documentaries The Antisocial Network, Faders Up: The John Aielli Experience, Photographer: Dan Winters, Shaking It Up: The Life and Times of Liz Carpenter, and The Truth vs. Alex Jones. Prominent narrative features across several programs include Nicolas Cage’s Arcadian, Cuckoo, The Greatest Hits, I Saw the TV Glow, Kneecap, Magpie, Música, Omni Loop, and Timestalker. Documentaries include Cheech & Chong's Last Movie, Dickweed, How Music Got Free, How to Build a Truth Engine, Plastic People, Preconceived, Secret Mall Apartment, MoviePass, MovieCrash, and Stormy. TV premieres include 3 Body Problem, Black Twitter: A People's History, Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show, Ren Faire, STAX: Soulville, U.S.A., and Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. Remaining selections will screen and/or stream as part of the SXSW programs Narrative Feature Competition, Documentary Feature Competition, Narrative Spotlight, Documentary Spotlight, Midnighters, Festival Favorites, Global, Visions, 24 Beats a Minute, TV Spotlight, Independent TV Pilot Competition, XR Experiences Competition and Spotlight, and narrative, documentary, animated, midnight, Texas, and Texas high school shorts packages. The SXSW Film & TV Conference, which runs March 8-12, features film and TV panels, discussions, and conversations. Keynote speakers include Everything Everywhere All At Once’s directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. There will also be a conversation with Sydney Sweeney; featured sessions with Jane Fonda, Rosario Dawson and Daisy Ridley; a 25th anniversary panel on Office Space with Mike Judge and cast members; and Civil War and Sing Sing panels.
