"The Superlative Light"
Director Ben Steinbauer’s SXSW Film Festival 2016 entry The Superlative Light recalls a period when Austin-based documentary photographer Robert Shults found himself homeless. The short documentary includes reenactments of pivotal moments in Shults’ life, including his days living on the streets in Florida and Texas to the menial photography job that enabled him get back on his feet to his 2013 exhibition devoted to University of Texas’ The Texas Petawatt Laser, the world’s brightest source of light. The Austin-based Ben Steinbauer previously directed the documentary Winnebago Man and last year’s SXSW short documentary Calls to Okies. The Superlative Light will screen during the SXSW Film Festival as part of the Texas Shorts Competition program at 10 p.m. March 11 at the Vimeo Theater, 2 p.m. March 14 at the Rollins Theatre at the Long Center, and 2 p.m. March 17 at the Topfer Theater at Zach.
