Alamo Drafthouse Village 50th Anniversary Reopening
Opening in 1974 as the Presidio Theatres Village, the Alamo Drafthouse Village celebrates its 50th anniversary with a remodel of its auditoriums and the opening of the new Vortex Video: Powered by Vulcan Video library. Each auditorium now boasts new reclining seating and 4K projection. Patrons can now borrow Blu-Rays, DVDs, and VHS tapes from the lobby’s curated video library, which is part of the 50,000 items of physical media amassed by Vulcan Video from 1985 through its COVID pandemic-induced closure in 2020. The collection was rescued by Alamo founder and executive chairman Tim League and was originally planned to be housed at the Alamo South Lamar before last year’s addition of a new auditorium. Other changes at the Alamo Drafthouse Village include a Video Vortex-themed makeover of the bar area and the addition of framed posters from films that were released in the 1974. The 50th anniversary celebrations continue with themed repertory screenings, including the Disney-centric Only at Village year-old, which focuses on the Mouse House’s animated and live-action classics, its 20th Century Fox acquisitions, and the Star Wars theatrical features.
