Interview:
Jill Gevargizian,
co-writer/director,
"The Stylist"
Write what you know. And The Stylist co-writer/director Jill Gevargizian knows hair. The stylist turned filmmaker makes her feature directorial debut with a psychological thriller that is partially shot at the hair salon where she still works in Kansas City. Based on her 2016 Fantastic Fest short of the same name, Gevargizian's tale of terror focuses on lonely stylist Claire's growing obsession with one of her clients, Olivia. With her wedding day approaching, and in need of constant help with her hair, Olivia makes the mistake of allowing Claire into her private life. Olivia obviously does not know that Claire has a tendency to scalp her clients. Contracted's Najarra Townsend reprises the role of Claire from the short; UT grad Brea Grant (After Midnight, Sleep No More, the upcoming 12 Hour Shift) stars as Olivia. The Stylist will stream 8 p.m. Sept. 26 during the Celebration of Fantastic Fest virtual film festival via Alamo On Demand. Jill Gevargizian previously directed the shorts Call Girl, BFF Girls, 42 Counts, and One Last Meal.
