Interview:
Bob Byington,
writer/director,
"Lousy Carter"
Austin-based Bob Byington’s new comic character study Lousy Carter finds David Krumholtz’s titular cranky college literature professor seemingly shaken from his life of apathy when he is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Once an acclaimed animator, Lousy Carter refocuses some of his time and energy into a reviving his dormant passion project, an adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov’s 1933 novel “Laughter in the Dark.” But Lousy Carter, who has kept his diagnosis a secret, quickly becomes distracted by his rocky relationships with his family members, friends, and the students enrolled in his graduate class on "The Great Gatsby." The Austin-shot Lousy Carter also stars Olivia Thirlby, Jocelyn DeBoer, Macon Blair, and Luxy Banner as well as such Bob Byington regulars as Martin Starr, Stephen Root, and Trieste Kelly Dunn. Lousy Carter, which counts Tim League among its executive producers, opened March 29 in Austin and is also available for VOD/digital viewing. Bob Byington previously directed Shameless, Olympia, RSO [Registered Sex Offender], Harmony & Me, Somebody Up There Likes Me, 7 Chinese Brothers, Infinity Baby, and France Ferguson, which costarred David Krumholtz. He is currently scheduled to shoot a film later this year in Austin written by and starring Jay Duplass. Aired: April 3, 2024. Web sites: https://www.magpictures.com/lousycarter/ |
