co-writer/director,
"The Pale Door"
Who dares to step through The Pale Door? Co-written and directed by the Austin-based filmmaker Aaron B. Koontz, this western horror film pits a gang of outlaws against a coven of witches. The outlaws seek refuge at a brothel following a train robbery gone awry. But the brothel workers have more on their minds than providing pleasure for payment. They want flesh and they want blood. The Pale Door’s cast is led by Happy Endings’ Zachary Knighton as gang leader Duncan; 13 Reasons Why’s Devin Druid as Duncan’s younger brother Jake; Hal Hartley regular Bill Sage as fellow outlaw Dodd; Magnolia’s Melora Walters as coven leader Maria; and Hail, Caesar!’s Natasha Bassett as Maria’s daughter Pearl. The Pale Door’s genre-friendly supporting cast includes Noah Segan, Pat Healy, Stan Shaw, Tina Parker, and James Landry Hébert. Austin-based filmmaker Aaron B. Koontz co-wrote The Pale Door with frequent collaborator Cameron Burns and Keith Lansdale, the son of one of the film’s executive producers, writer Joe R. Lansdale. The Pale Door opens Aug. 21 in Austin theaters and also will be available for PVOD viewing. Austin-based filmmaker Aaron B. Koontz previously directed Camera Obscura and produced and directed segments of the horror anthology Scare Package.
