"Night on Sixth"
Directed by Mohit Jaswal, the character study Night on Sixth finds a woman wandering the streets of Austin, striking up conversations with strangers as she contemplates the next chapter of her life. Comedian Yola Lu stars as Yola, who ditches her closest friends during a night out on the town when she becomes overwhelmed by the prospect of getting married. Yola quickly discovers that the random encounters she enjoys on her walkabout allows her to take her mind off her seemingly preordained future. Night on Sixth costars many current and former fixtures of the Austin comedy scene, including Tai Nguyen, G-Su Paek, Minda Wei, Virgil Shelby, and Redd Jefferson, who cowrote the film with Mohit Jaswal. Night on Sixth will receive an outdoor screening during the Austin Asian American Film Festival at 7:30 p.m. June 16 at the Long Center's H-E-B Terrace, with cast members Yola Lu and Tai Nguyen in attendance for a preshow. Night on Sixth also is available to stream June 16-20 during the Austin Asian American Film Festival. Austin-based director and comedian Mohit Jaswal previously directed the feature Garbage, which will receive an online release later this year, as well as the short films Butt Fantasia, Applying the Condom, Food Porn, Phone Death, and We Must Kill. Aired: June 10 and 17, 2021. Web sites: https://www.facebook.com/mohit.jaswal https://www.aaafilmfest.org/ https://www.facebook.com/AAAFF/ |
