East Austin Stories director,
How Graffiti Art Came to East Austin"
East Austin Stories is an annual collaboration between East Austinites and student documentary filmmakers at the University of Texas’s Radio Television Film College of Communication. They produce short documentaries that chronicle life in East Austin. Founded by UT Radio Television Film Associate Producer Andrew Garrison, and taught by UT-RTF professor Ivete Lucas, this year’s East Austin Stories entries will screen May 16 at 6 p.m. at Zavala Elementary Auditorium and 8:30 pm at Kenny Dorham's Backyard. This year’s short documentaries include director Maggie Bell’s Crossing the Line, an experimental non-dialogue film that contrasts old and gentrified East Austin, and director Nick Kondylas’ The Foundation: How Graffiti Art Came to East Austin, which pays tribute to the neighborhood’s pioneer graffiti artists. UT-RTF professor Ivette Lucas (left) and Crossing the Line director Maggie Bell (center) join The Foundation director Nick Kondylas (right) during this interview.
