"Feels Good Man"
Directed by Arthur Jones (pictured), and produced by former Austinite Giorgio Angelini, the documentary Feels Good Man traces how artist Matt Furie’s comic-book creation Pepe the Frog became a harmless Internet meme before being appropriated by white supremacists and the alt-right and used as a symbol of hate during the 2016 Presidential election. Feels Good Man chronicles Furie's efforts reclaim Pepe the Frog, which includes suing Austin-based Info Wars host Alex Jones for the unauthorized use of the cartoon character. The documentary’s title is borrowed from Pepe the Frog’s catchphrase, “Feels good man.” Feels Good Man, which was scheduled to premiere locally during this year’s SXSW Film Festival, will screen 7:10 p.m. March 14 and 1:30 p.m. March 17 at the Violet Crown with producer Giorgio Angelini in attendance. Please note this interview was conducted before the City of Austin canceled this year’s SXSW and makes reference to the film festival.
Note: Feels Good Man premiered Oct. 19, 2020 as part of the PBS series Independent Lens and is now available for digital/on-demand viewing.
