SciFi Film Festival
The Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival will be held Dec. 7-10 at the Flix Brewhouse in Round Rock. The festival opens Dec. 7 with a retrospective screening of the 1997 chiller Event Horizon with screenwriter Philip Eisner in attendance. There also will be a retrospective screening of the 1979 Disney epic The Black Hole on Dec. 10 with director Gary Nelson in attendance to receive the festival’s Defender of the Universe Award. New films include the Skyline sequel Beyond Skyline starring Frank Grillo, Closer Than We Think, CoColors, Curvature, Defective, Everything Beautiful is Far Away, Flora, Fractured, Gnaw, Hostile, Mindhack, Painless, Restoration, and Tuftland. There also will be programs devoted to scifi and horror shorts. The festival will close Dec. 10 with Curvature and Prodigy. Founder and artistic director Bears Fonte will screen his new sci-fi short Prenatal, about a woman who experiences an an immaculate conception, before Curvature and Prodigy.
