Interview:
Eric McEver,
writer/director,
"Iké Boys"
Inspired by such Japanese fantasy cinema as anime and tokusatsu, and set on the eve of Y2k, writer/director Eric McEver's Iké Boys pits three newly super-powered teenagers against a doomsday cult plotting to free an imprisoned group of Old Gods intent on wiping out humanity. An anime DVD blessed with ancient magic transform Oklahoma high school seniors Shawn (Firefly Lane and Trick 'r Treat's Quinn Lord) and Vik (Ronak Gandhi), and Japanese exchange student Miki (Christina Higa) into Earth's mightiest heroes. But their efforts to save the world are hindered by their growing differences. The cast also includes Billy Zane, Ben Browder, and The Princess Blade's Rumiko Shaku. Representing Eric McEver's feature-film directorial debut, Iké Boys premiered locally during Fantastic Fest 2021. Posted: Sept. 30, 2021.
