"Deep in the Heart"
Narrated by Matthew McConaughey, director Ben Masters’ documentary Deep in the Heart offers a wildlife and nature tour of Texas while making a strong argument to increase conservation and restoration efforts on the state's public and private land. Masters crisscrosses Texas to explore Texas’ many ecosystems and to capture such species as the Texas State Bison, the white-tailed deer, the Mexican free-tailed bat, the mountain lion, the ocelot, the Guadalupe bass, and the blind catfish in their natural or new environments. Deep in the Heart will open June 3 in Austin theaters, including at the AFS Cinema, and will screen at 2:30 p.m. June 4 during the Hill Country Film Festival in Fredericksburg. Austin-based Ben Masters previously directed the 2019 documentary The River and the Wall, produced the 2017 documentary Charged: The Eduardo Garcia Story, and appeared in the 2015 documentary Unbranded.
