Interview:
Christine Chen,
director,
"The Earth Below"
Austin-based director Christine Chen’s sci-fi short The Earth Below imagines a society free of men and the promise of everlasting peace through the unity of women. The absence of men, though, weighs heavily of the mind of Butterfly (Elizabeth Trieu) as she struggles to become pregnant through medical procedures. She hopes the answers to her questions about her society’s past and her own future lies with a man (Corey Landis) who has dared to enter a world that would eliminate him on the spot. The Earth Below will screen between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Motion Media Arts Center as part of the inaugural Transform Film Fest’s narrative program. Christine Chen previously directed the short films Ya Albi, Bird’s Nest and Two Roads as well as the upcoming feature film Funemployment.
