"Cowboys"
Who is the modern-day cowboy? This is the question Austin-based directors John Langmore and Bud Force answer with their documentary Cowboys. Langmore and Force travel to 10 of the largest "big outfit" cattle ranches in the United States, including in Texas, to present intimate portraits of working and retired cowboys. They discuss the challenges of herding cattle on remote ranches that can span one million acres, the sacrifices cowboys make for their chosen lifestyle, and the future of their demanding profession. Cowboys will screen 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Paramount Theatre and 1 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Alamo Drafthouse Village during the Austin Film Festival. Cowboys represents the directorial debut of John Langmore and Bud Force. John Langmore is a former working cowboy who recently published his book of photographs “Open Range – America’s Big Outfit Cowboy.” Bud Force is a former rodeo cowboy who now works as a director and a cinematographer of brand films and commercials.
