This year’s Austin Film Festival & Conference will be held Oct. 23-30 at various venues. The festival will open with the U.S. premiere of the Al Pacino drama The Humbling and will close with Jon Stewart’s director debut, Rosewater. Other notable films include Black and White starring Kevin Costner, The Imitation Game starring Benedict Cumberbatch, The Last 5 Years starring Anna Kendricks, the Tommy Lee Jones-directed The Homeman, the James Franco-directed The Sound and the Fury, and the documentaries 21 Years: Richard Linklater and The Texas Promise. Edward Zwick, the producer of the TV series thirtysomething and director of Blood Diamond, Courage Under Fire, and The Last Samurai, will receive the “Extraordinary Contribution to Film” award. Mad Men writer and director Matthew Weiner will receive the “Outstanding Television Writer” award. Others guests and conference panelists include True Detective director Cary Fukunage, In the Name of the Father’s director Jim Sheridan and screenwriter Terry George, Metropolitan director Whit Stillman, Erin Brockovich screenwriter Susannah Grant, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Parts I and II screenwriter Peter Craig. The festival's creative director Erin Hallagan joins senior film programmer Liz Mims during this interview.
