In Austin-based writer/director Christine Chen’s short drama Ya Albi, Syrian refugee Aya strikes up a friendship with her tutor, Julie, soon after she discovers her husband’s immigration visa is rejected. Both women quickly realize they have more in common than not. Diana Rose plays Aya and Wanetah Walmsley plays Julie in this hopeful look at the immigration experience during intolerant times in the United States. Ya Albi will screen 3:45 p.m. April 29 during the Hill Country Film Festival in Fredericksburg.
