"Nothing Stays the Same:
The Story of the Saxon Pub"
Directed by Jeff Sandmann and produced by Lisa Kay Pfannenstiel and Jeffrey Brown, Nothing Stays the Same: The Story of the Saxon Pub examines the history behind the South Lamar Boulevard listening room against the struggles many of Austin’s music venues face to remain in business in the face of gentrification and the financial difficulties its cash-poor musicians endure in order to make ends meet in a city that they can no longer afford to live in. The documentary includes interviews with Saxon Pub owners Joe and Judy Ables, musicians John Chipman, Guy Forsyth, and Bob Schneider, City of Austin Mayor Steve Adler, and Keller Williams Realty founder Gary Keller, who not only is the new landlord of the Saxon Pub but also is the founder of the music education-based nonprofit ALL ATX. Nothing Stays the Same: The Story of the Saxon Pub will screen 1:45 p.m. March 16 at the Alamo South Lamar during this year’s SXSW Film Festival. Nothing Stays the Same: The Story of the Saxon Pub represents Jeff Sandmann’s directorial debut. Jeffrey Brown previously produced Through the Repellent Fence and Vinyl Generation.
