"Peace Officer"
Co-directed by former Austinite Scott Christopherson and Brad Barber, the documentary Peace Officer chronicles the investigation by Dub Lawrence, a former Utah county sheriff, into the police-related death of his son-in-law, Brian Wood. The sad irony? As the Sheriff of Davis County, Lawrence was responsible for founding the SWAT team that decades later would be called in to defuse a domestic situation initiated by Wood. Lawrence launched his investigation after he became convinced that the police-shooting death was a use of questionable force by the sheriff’s department he once led. Peace Officer also follows Lawrence as he investigates several troubling officer-involved shootings and SWAT raids. Peace Officer, which premiered locally at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, opened Oct. 9 in Austin. Co-director Scott Christopherson will participate in post-screening Q&As following the 7 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. Oct. 9 screenings at Alamo South Lamar.
