"Sasquatch Sunset"
Austin-based filmmaking duo and brothers David Zellner and Nathan Zellner’s lifelong fascination with Bigfoot already manifested itself in the 2010 short film Sasquatch Birth Journal 2. Now comes the Zellner Brothers’ new feature, Sasquatch Sunset, which tracks a year in the life of a small group of the mythical creatures. The surreal dramedy finds four sasquatches—two male, one female, one male child—going about their daily business in and around California’s Redwood National and State Parks. But the threat of human encroachment becomes prevalent as the sasquatches make their way through the woodlands in search of more of their kind. Sasquatch Sunset stars Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Christophe Zajac-Denek, and Nathan Zellner all unrecognizable in their Bigfoot costumes and makeup. Sasquatch Sunset, which premiered locally during this year’s SXSW Film & TV Festival, opens April 12 in Austin. The Zellner Brothers previously directed Damsel, Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter, Kid-Thing, Goliath, Plastic Utopia, and Frontier. They also directed three episodes of the Nathan Fielder/Benny Safdie-created TV series The Curse. Aired: April 3, 2024.
