Interview:
Danielle Evon Ploeger,
"Country Gold"
Country Gold marks the second collaboration between Austin-based actress Danielle Evon Ploeger and Oklahoma-based micro-budget maverick filmmaker Mickey Reece following 2019’s vampire yarn Climate of the Hunter. In the 1994-set speculative dark comedy Country Gold, Ploeger stars as Donna, one of three women who spend the night partying in and around Nashville with the iconic George Jones and the Garth Brooks-informed Troyal Brux. Portrayed by Reece, the squeaky clean Brux arrives in Nashville expecting to strike up a friendship with his life-long idol and primary musical influence. But the hard-partying Jones, who is scheduled to be cryogenically frozen the next morning, has other plans for the country pop megastar. Ben Hall, who played the vampire enamored with Danielle Evon Ploeger in Climate of the Hunter, stars as Jones. Country Gold, which premiered locally during last year’s Fantastic Fest, is now streaming at https://www.fandor.com/ and is also available for digital and VOD viewing. Danielle Evon Ploeger, who grew up in Gonzales, previously appeared in Aaron Koontz’s horror western The Pale Door, Duncan Coe and Elena Weinberg’s post-apocalyptic drama A Room Full of Nothing, Benjamin R. Moody’s slasher Last Girl Standing, and Phillip Lybrand’s Summer League. She also appeared in two films by the Oklahoma-based filmmakers Alex Greenlee and Todd Greenlee, the psychological chiller Home with a View of the Monster and the creature feature All Eyes, the latter of which also stars Country Gold and Climate of the Hunter’s Ben Hall. Danielle Evon Ploeger will next be seen in The Buildout, One Hand Clapping, Remember to Forget, and The Roommate.
