"Jewels in the Wasteland"
Richard Linklater closes out his personal retrospective of the studio and independent films of the 1980s when his Austin Film Society series “Jewels in the Wasteland” returns Oct. 4 at the AFS Cinema with Drugstore Cowboy. The Austin Film Society founder/artistic director and Slacker writer/director previously programmed the “Jewels in the Wasteland” series in 2014 and 2015, focusing on films released in 1980-1983 and 1984-1986. This three-month series capper presents films from 1987-1989, with Drugstore Cowboy leading into Colors, Another Woman, They Live, High Hopes, Barfly, Boyfriends & Girlfriends, Ishtar, Born on the Fourth July, The Dead, and Wings of Desire. Richard Linklater will introduce and participate in a post-screening of the first screening of each film in the series.
