![]() Richard Linklater closes out his personal retrospective of the studio and independent films of the 1980s when his Austin Film Society series “Jewels in the Wasteland” returns Oct. 4 at the AFS Cinema with Drugstore Cowboy. The Austin Film Society founder/artistic director and Slacker writer/director previously programmed the “Jewels in the Wasteland” series in 2014 and 2015, focusing on films released in 1980-1983 and 1984-1986. This three-month series capper presents films from 1987-1989, with Drugstore Cowboy leading into Colors, Another Woman, They Live, High Hopes, Barfly, Boyfriends & Girlfriends, Ishtar, Born on the Fourth July, The Dead, and Wings of Desire. Richard Linklater will introduce and participate in a post-screening of the first screening of each film in the series.
