The Cine Las Americas International Film Festival’s Hecho en Tejas program includes three locally made short documentaries that will screen at 2 p.m. May 4 at the AFS Cinema. Director Sachin Dheeraj Mudigonda’s The Bubbleman celebrates U.S. Air Force veteran Joseph Losoya, who spends his Monday mornings at Texas State University spreading joy and happiness by blowing bubbles with students. Co-directed and produced by Paul Del Bosque, Cantina examines how La Perla bar owner Eddie Costilla remains dedicated to serving his longtime East Austin customers despite other the closure or displacement of other local businesses because of gentrification. Director Patrick Higgins’ This Feels Like a Setupfeatures interviews with undocumented immigrants who face an uncertain future in the United States as the “Dreamers” wait for the U.S. Supreme Court to consider whether President Donald Trump’s can end the DACA program.
