Interview:
Gene Cernan,
"The Last Man on the Moon"
July 20, 2016 marked the 47th anniversary of the first walk on the moon. More than three years after Neil Armstrong took his small step for man, and one giant leap for mankind, Gene Cernan would become the 11th of 12 Apollo astronauts to walk the moon. As commander of Apollo 17, the final Apollo lunar landing, the 38-year-old Cernan made his moonwalk in December 1972 alongside Harrison Schmitt. Cernan entered the lunar mobile after Schmitt, making him the last man to walk on the moon. Cernan is the subject of The Last Man on the Moon, a documentary that examines the career of the retired NASA astronaut, U.S. naval officer and fighter pilot, the months of preparation for the Apollo 17 lunar landing, and the current state of the U.S. government space program. The Last Man on the Moon screened during last year’s SXSW Film Festival and is now available on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download. Lights Camera Austin spoke with Gene Cernan during last year's SXSW Film Festival.
