Interview:
Laura Odegaard,
City of Austin Cultural Arts Divisions
senior project manager
"Faces of Austin"
The City of Austin’s Faces of Austin program showcases 12 narrative and documentary shorts made by area filmmakers that capture the life, experiences, concerns and/or contributions of city residents. Originally scheduled to be held during the now-canceled SXSW Film Festival, the community screening of the Faces of Austin short film program will be now be held at 12:30 p.m. March 14 at the AFS Cinema. This year’s program is dominated by documentaries that address a variety of subjects close to the hearts of Austinites, including homelessness, services and resources for people with disabilities, the city’s bat population, cultural traditions, music, and the visual arts. The program also includes one narrative short, writer/director Prakshi Malik’s Embers, which tackles racial profiling in high school. Please note this interview was conducted before the City of Austin canceled this year’s SXSW and makes reference to the film festival.
