![]() Directed by Karen Bernstein, I’m Gonna Make You Love Me traces the gender identity issues faced by Brian Belovitch before and after transitioning in the early 1980s and taking New York City’s nightlife scene by storm as performer and partier Tish Gervais. The documentary chronicles Belovitch’s colorful but difficult life as a young gay man and the experiences and circumstances as a trans woman that eventually influenced Belovitch to detransition from Tish back to Brian. Selected for this year’s cancelled SXSW Film Festival, I’m Gonna Make You Love Me will screen 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Gaslight Baker Theatre in Lockhart and 6 PM Sunday, Nov. 8 at Doc’s Drive-in Theatre in Buda during the Lost River Film Fest. The Elgin-based documentary filmmaker Karen Bernstein previously co-directed Richard Linklater - dream is destiny and directed Are The Kids Alright? She also produced the documentaries The Secret Life of Lance Letscher, Children of Giant, Body of War, and Troop 1500.
