January 2024 Programming
The Austin Film Society's January 2024 programming at the AFS Cinema includes the series Godard in the ‘80s, featuring Every Man for Himself, First Name: Carmen, Hail Mary, and Detective. The accompanying documentary Godard Cinema is paired with Jean-Luc Godard's final film, the 20-minute short Trailer of the Film That Will Never Exist: "Phony Wars." New releases include director Steve McQueen's documentary Occupied City. Best of the Fests selections include Plastic, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt, Under the Fig Trees, and Austin-based director PJ Raval's Who We Become. Documentaries include Joan Baez: I Am a Noise, The Gods of Times Square, The Disappearnce of Shere Hite, Razing Liberty Square, and Frederick Wiseman's Menus-Plaisirs - Les Troisgros, Retrospective screenings include The Cassandra Cat, Household Saints, In the Heat of the Night, Koyaanisqatsi, Peeping Tom, The Plot Against Harry, Seven Samurai, Starship Troopers, the Lates selection Baby Blood, and the Fright Club selection Night Tide. The Queer Cinema: Lost & Found series brings My Dearest Señorita to the AFS Cinema.
