Lead Film Programmer Lars Nilsen previews the Austin Film Society October 2017 programming at the AFS Cinema, including Richard Linklater's 1980s-themed "Jewels in the Wasteland;" "Art Horror;" Fernando de Fuentes' "Revolution Trilogy;" and series devoted to Catherine Deneuve and Buster Keaton. The AFS Cinema also will host the Texas premiere of Richard Linklater's Last Flag Flying on Oct. 24. Special events include "70 Years of Polish Animation" and the "TV Shock Rock Marathon." The AFS Cinema also will show the Austin-made documentaries Inside the Circle, Look and See: A Portrait of Wendell Berry, and Through the Repellent Fence and the narrative drama Barracuda, with a post-screening Q&A with directors Julia Halperin and Jason Cortlund and musical contributors Butch Hancock and Colin Gilmore on Oct. 13. There also will be engagements of newly restored versions of The Shining and Night of the Living Dead.
