The Decade in Comic-Book Films Discussion
Bryan Spauding is the host of KOOP 91.7 FM’s The Pull List, a show dedicated to devoted to new comic books. He joined Lights Camera Austin in December to discuss the Decade in Comic-Book Films. This past decade was dominated by the Disney-owned Marvel. The Marvel Cinematic Universe was still in its infancy in 2010 when Iron Man 2 arrived a year in advance of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger. In 2019, Avengers: Endgame made history by becoming the highest-grossing film worldwide with almost $2.8 billion. Warner Bros. spent most of the decade trying to play catch-up, with its DC Extended Universe getting off to a rough start with Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League before finding its footing with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazam! Also, DC’s standalone Joker origin story may likely earn Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar nomination. In addition this past decade, the long-running X-Men franchise came to a close with Disney’s purchase of Fox while the failure of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise forced Sony to team with Disney on the new Spider-Man series with Tom Holland as Peter Parker. We also take a glimpse at the future of both the MCU and the DCEU as well discuss other comic-book, graphic novel and manga adaptations of the past decade The Pull List can be heard 6-7 p.m. every Wednesday on KOOP HD1 HD3 and at http://koop.org. Aired: Jan. 9, 2020. Web site: http://www.koop.org |
