![]() Inspired by his observations and personal interactions during the 2016 U.S. presidential election, writer/director Stephen R. Reynolds’ Austin-shot ensemble drama Tumbleweed casts a critical eye at small-town Texas life, commerce, and politics. Set in the late 1990s, Tumbleweed finds Yvette (Kristy Ragland) forced to go on the run with her friend Victoria (Vanessa Leinani) following a tragic turn of events. In need of a safe place to stay, Yvette heads to her Texas hometown at Victoria’s suggestion. Yvette’s return home comes at a time when the family is gathered for a wedding. Tensions also run high as family matriarch Claire (Juli Tapken) contends with challenges both from within the family and from the staff who manage her bank. The cast includes Vanessa Leinani as Yvette’s cunning friend Victoria and Austin opera singer Amy Selby as ambitious assistant bank manager Payton. Tumbleweed screens 5 p.m. Jan 23 at Tiger Den Austin. The Austin-based Stephen R. Reynolds previously directed Dracula, De Nada, Eternity Comes Tomorrow, The Fall of the House of Usher, Fess Up, Might of Me, Prism of the Mind, Scar & Tissue andTriggered. Aired: Jan. 20, 2022.
