"Give or Take"
Co-written and directed by Paul Riccio, the dramedy Give or Take examines the tense relationship between two grieving men who struggle to find common ground following the death of a loved one. Martin (co-writer Jamie Effros) travels from New York to Cape Cod to plan his father’s funeral with the help of his father’s live-in partner, Ted (Bloodline’s Norbert Leo Butz). Martin believes Ted has idealized his father, whom Martin barely spoke with over the course of several years; Ted questions whether Martin ever accepted his father for coming out as gay so late in life. Accordingly, the mistrust between Martin and Ted complicates Martin’s plan to sell his father’s house for a princely sum to a rich couple. Give or Take co-writer/star Jamie Effros plays Martin; Bloodlines’ Norbert Leo Butz plays Ted. The cast also includes Joanne Tucker as Martin’s former girlfriend Emma, Annapurna Sriram as Martin’s current girlfriend Lauren, and Cheri Oteri as realtor Patty King. Give or Take will stream Aug. 14-16 during the AGLIFF 33: Prism virtual film festival at (https://watch.eventive.org/agliff/play/5f03939ebbf1f90078d81447). There will be a live Q&A at 1 p.m. Aug. 16 with co-writer/director Paul Riccio, co-writer/star Jamie Effros, and stars Norbert Leo Butz and Cheri Oteri. Give or Take represents Paul Riccio’s directorial debut. Butz previously starred in the films Luce, Better Living Through Chemistry, The English Teacher, and Disconnect. He also appeared in the TV series Bloodline, Mercy Street, and The Deep End as well as the miniseries Fosse/Verdon as Paddy Chayefsky. A celebrated Broadway performer, Butz won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Catch Me if You Can.
