"Somebody I Used to Know"
Marking the first writing collaboration between married couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco, the anti-romcom Somebody I Used to Know stars Brie as a reality TV showrunner who returns to the comfort and familiarity of her small hometown of Leavenworth, Washington, following the cancelation of her show Dessert Island. When she crosses paths with her ex-fiancé Sean (Jay Ellis), Ally (Brie) begins to wonder what would have happened had she stayed in Leavenworth with Sean instead of heading to Hollywood to pursue a career in film and television. Ally’s feelings for Sean intensify when she learns he is about to marry Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons), a slightly younger woman who also must choose between a life in Leavenworth or continuing to record and tour with her punk rock band Dirty Blush. While Ally sees much of herself in Cassidy, she also cannot bear the thought of another woman marrying Sean. So Ally sets out to win Sean back from Cassidy. Directed by Dave Franco, Somebody I Used to Know also stars Alison Brie’s Community costar Danny Pudi as Ally’s childhood pal Benny. Somebody I Used to Know is now available to stream on Prime Video. Actor Dave Franco previously co-wrote with Joe Swanberg and directed the 2020 slasher The Rental, which starred Alison Brie. Brie previously co-wrote 2020’s Horse Girl and 2022’s Spin Me Round with director Jeff Baena. Brie and Franco also starred together in The Disaster Artist and The Little Hours. Aired: Feb. 14, 2023.
