Austin 48 Hour Film Project 2022
The Austin 48 Hour Film Project is an annual movie-making contest that requires its participants teams of professional and amateur filmmakers to make a short over the course of a single weekend. This year’s 20th anniversary Austin 48 Hour Film Project contest, which was held the weekend of June 10-12, featured 36 teams racing against the clock to make cinematic magic on a microbudget. Each team received an assigned genre and had to include the following required elements in their films: the character of Taylor Getties, Expert; the prop of a wrench; and the line, “Don't tell anyone what I am about to say” or “Do not tell anyone what I am about to say.” Thirty-one of the 36 teams finished their films, with all but two of those teams meeting the contest’s deadline. The Austin 48 Hour Film Project will screen blocks of this year’s contest entries at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. June 20 and 7 p.m. June 21 at the AFS Cinema. Among this year’s Austin 48 Hour Film Project participants are contest veteran Trey Huguley, the producer of Ten House Productions, and rookie team leader Jack Smith of The Dear Fear Folk, a new team comprised of people who worked on the Austin set of Fear The Walking Dead. Ten House Productions made the crime/gangster thriller APEX and The Dear Fear Folk made the coming-of-age drama Espresso Feelings.
