Interview:
F. Javier Gutiérrez,
writer/director,
"The Wait"
Inspired by his childhood visits to his grandfather’s village in the south of Spain, writer/director F. Javier Gutiérrez’s 1970s-set folk horror drama The Wait examines the aftermath of an avoidable hunting accident that claims life of a young boy. Struggling with his grief, and so consumed with guilt, the boy’s father—a gamekeeper for a ranch with hunting grounds—seizes upon an opportunity to exact revenge against the man he partially holds responsible for his son’s death. Eladio’s actions, though, come back to haunt him in more ways than one. Víctor Clavijo stars as Eladio. The Wait screens at 11:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Alamo South Lamar during Fantastic Fest. F. Javier Gutiérrez previously directed the 2008 Spanish disaster movie Before the Fall, which also starred Víctor Clavijo, and the 2017 legacy sequel Rings.
