Interview:
Peter Curtis Pardini,
writer/director,
"Man Goes on Rant"
While sheltering in place during the COVID pandemic, filmmaker Peter Curtis Pardini poured his time, energy, fears, and frustration into making a documentary about the trajectory of the United States from 9/11 to the pandemic using only archival footage. Pardini choose not to release the documentary to the public but instead used it as the foundation for his Austin-shot dark comedy, Man Goes on Rant. The character study stars Brian Villalobos as an unnamed film director whose COVID-related trauma manifests itself in a severe case of Rabbit Hole Syndrome. The director sets out to make a documentary about every tragic event of the 21st century in a desperate bid to make sense of all the conspiracies theories he has subjected himself while in quarantine. But the director’s focus on the conspiracies and seemingly related coincidences makes his gradual return to society all the harder. Man Goes on Rant also stars Jerry Maguire and Stuart Little child actor Jonathan Lipnicki as a fictional version of himself. The opening night film of the inaugural Comedy Film Festival, Man Goes on Rant screens at 7 p.m. April 4 at the AFS Cinema. Austin-based filmmaker Peter Curtis Pardini previously directed Fat: A Documentary and the narrative features Rolling Thunder, Black Cat, and Very Strange People. He also collaborated with the veteran pop group Chicago on The Last Band on Stage, A Song or Two to Make You Feel, Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago, Chicago World Tour 2011: Backstage Pass, and Chicago Presents an Evening of Holiday Music and Greatest Hits. Aired: April 3, 2024. Web sites: https://www.peterpardini.com/ https://www.facebook.com/PeterPardiniDirector/ https://www.thecomedyfilmfest.com/ https://www.facebook.com/thecomedyfilmfestival |
