Interview:
Kestrin Pantera,
writer/director/star,
"Mother's Little Helpers"
Long-buried family secrets are literally and figuratively unearthed in the Austin-set Mother’s Little Helpers, a dramedy that was informed by writer/director Kestrin Pantera’s experiences visiting her husband’s relatives in Austin and the passing of her father-in-law. Pantera plays the pregnant Sadie Pride, who returns to her hometown of Austin when her mother Joy is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Sadie and her three siblings Julia, Lucy, and Jude have a complicated relationship with Joy, a free spirit who believes she was a better mother than she was to her children. During their final days together, the siblings work through their issues with their mother as they struggle with their own problems. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Melanie Hutsell plays Joy; Breeda Wool plays the New-Agey Julia; Milana Vayntrub plays the practical Lucy; and Sam Littlefield plays recovering addict Jude. Mother’s Little Helpers will screen 10:45 a.m. March 15 at the Alamo South Lamar during this year’s SXSW Film Festival. Kestrin Pantera previously directed the 2014 comedy Let’s Ruin It With Babies.
