Interview:
Jeffrey Peixoto,
director,
"Over the Rainbow"
Directed by former Austinite Jeffrey Peixoto, Over the Rainbow offers intimate portraits of multiple longtime rank-and-file members of the Church of Scientology while impartially examining the belief system put in place decades ago by controversial founder L. Ron Hubbard. Peixoto, who is not connected to the Church of Scientology, also receives access to film the church’s core practice of “auditing” as well as to tour such facilities as the Ranch School in Happy Valley, California and the New Horizons Academy in Marble Falls. The end result is not an exposé but an attempt to gain a greater understanding of what draws people of all backgrounds to Scientology. Over the Rainbow will screen 3:15 p.m. June 1 at the AFS Cinema as part of the Austin Film Society’s Doc Days series with director Jeffrey Peixoto in attendance.
