"Starving the Beast"
Directed by University of Texas film lecturer Steve Mims, the documentary Starving the Beast examines a sociopolitical movement to push institutions of higher learning into a consumer-oriented marketplace through the practice of disruptive innovation. The documentary details the power struggles for control of the University of Texas, Texas A&M, Louisiana State University, and the University of Wisconsin. Starving the Beast will screen during the SXSW Film Festival at 7 p.m. March 13 at the Topfer Theatre at Zach, 7 p.m. March 15 at the Rollins Theatre at the Long Center, 5:15 p.m. March 17 at the Marchesa Hall & Theatre, and 11:30 a.m. March 19 at the Alamo South Lamar. Steve Mims previously directed the documentary Incendiary: The Willingham Case and the narrative comedy Arlo and Julie.
