"Huesera: The Bone Woman"
Co-written and directed by Michelle Garza Cervera, the Mexican folklore-informed Huesera: The Bone Woman finds a pregnant woman gradually coming to believe that she is being targeted by cult followers of a malevolent supernatural force. At the same time, Valeria, played by Natalia Solián, must contend with maternal fears prompted by her concerns about settling for a life and a marriage she never saw for herself. Huesera: The Bone Woman, which premiered locally during last year’s Fantastic Fest, opens Feb. 10 at the Galaxy Theatres Austin. It will also screen at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Alamo Drafthouse Mueller with co-writer/director Michelle Garza Cervera in attendance for a post-screening Q&A. Huesera: The Bone Woman premieres Feb. 16 on Shudder. The film represents the feature film debut of the Mexico City-based Michelle Garza Cervera, who contributed the segment “Vitriol” to the horror anthology Mexico Barbaro 2 and has directed episodes of the streaming series Marea alta.
