Austin Asian American Film Festival
The Austin Asian American Film Festival runs June 21-25 at the AFS Cinema. Devoted to Asian and Asian-American films, the festival opens June 21 with the documentary Starring Jerry As Himself and closes June 25 with the drama Arnold Is a Model Student. The drama Waiting for the Light to Change will screen June 23 as the festival’s centerpiece film. The festival also will screen the narrative features The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra and Fremont and the documentaries How to Have an American Baby, The Grizzlie Truth, The Taste of Mango, Wisdom Gone Wild, and Kapwa Texas by Austin-based filmmaker PJ Raval. The 1983 documentary The Fall of the I-Hotel will receive a retrospective screening. The Texas Shorts block will screen June 22. Aired: June 21, 2023.
