On Story
The Austin Film Festival continues to write its own history. Devoted to the craft of screenwriting, the festival just launched its 11th season of On Story, the TV series devoted to filmmakers discussing their storytelling process. This season’s 14 episodes, which began airing April 3 on public television stations, features interviews with A Beautiful Mind Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, The Old Guard director Gina Prince-Bythewood, Watchmen executive producer/writer Damon Lindelof, and Gone Girl and Sharp Objects novelist/writer Gillian Flynn. Interviews for this season of On Story, a brand that extends to podcasts and radio shows, were recorded during the 2020 virtual Austin Film Festival. The festival went online last year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The Austin Film Festival announced March 31 that it will hold an in-person event with a virtual component from Oct. 21-28. The festival also will honor The Queen’s Gambit creator and Minority Report and Logan screenwriter Scott Frank as the 2021 recipient of the Bill Wittliff Award for Screenwriting. In addition, the Austin Film Festival will offer both in-person and virtual summer camps from June 7 through July 30. Virtual camps include smartphone filmmaking 101, smartphone documentary shorts filmmaking, and filmmaking writing for video games. In-person camps include script to screen filmmaking workshops for teenagers, filmmaking 101, and Claymation creations.
