There was a time in the 1980s when it felt like every other movie released was an adaptation of a Stephen King bestseller. So it should come as no surprise that, beginning with Carrie in 1976, Hollywood has made more than 80 films and TV series based on or related to King’s novels and short stories. A lifelong fan of King’s literary work, Austin-based A.V. Club contributor Scott Von Doviak has written a new book about the films and TV shows that owe their existence to the Master of Horror. Stephen King Films FAQ casts a critical eye at the good and bad adaptations of King’s work, from Brian De Palma’s Carrie through the TV series Under the Dome, which will return for a second season on CBS beginning June 30.
