Interview:
Bradley Beesley,
director,
"Fathers of Football"
Directed by the Austin-based Bradley Beesley, the documentary Fathers of Football takes us to the Oklahoma small town of Wagoner, where high school football isn’t just a way of life but a way out of this blue-collar community for the students who play for the Wagoner Bulldogs. Beesley’s documentary chronicles the Bulldogs’ 2015 season, which finds the team playing in defense of its 2014 Class 4A State Championship title. In addition to winning games and managing the personalities on his team, the Bulldogs’ veteran coach Dale Condict must also deal with the news that his son Austin, also a player on the team, must undergo treatment for testicular cancer. Fathers of Football will screen 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 at the State Theatre and 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 at the Rollins Theatre during the Austin Film Festival. Austin-based director Bradley Beesley’s previous documentaries include 2001’s Okie Noodling, 2006’s Summercamp!, and 2009’s Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo.
