Lead Film Programmer Lars Nilsen previews the Austin Film Society's October 2019 programming at the AFS Cinema. Highlights include the Essential Cinema: Edgar G. Ulmer: Prince of Poverty Row series, a Robert Downey Sr. mini-series, and a mini-retrospective of films by director Agnieszka Holland, who will attend the Oct. 30 screening of Europa, Europa. The AFS will welcomes four Austin-based artists: France Ferguson director Bob Byington; Sister Aimee star Anna Margaret Hollyman; Rock Opera's Bob Ray; and QT8: The First Eight's Tara Woods. Chained for Life and Parasite leads the new releases. Repertory titles include Buffalo 66, The Red Shoes, White Star. KOOP 91.7 FM programmers Art Baker of Jamaican Gold, Dale Smith of Roots Train, and The Africa Express’ Melinda Bee for a DJ set following the Oct. 12 screening of The Harder They Come. The AFS also celebrates Halloween with screenings of The Brood, Halloween III: The Season of the Witch, A Lizard in Woman’s Skin, and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
