Austin Film Festival
The Austin Film Festival opens Oct. 29 with the Kray twins mob opera Legend and closes Nov. 5 with the Lance Armstrong drama The Program. Other films includes such Antonio Bandera’s The 33, James Franco’s Adderall Diaries, Saoirse Ronan’s Brooklyn, Cate Blanchett’s Carol, Tom Hiddleton’s I Saw the Light, Ewan McGregor’s Last Days in the Desert, Diane Keaton’s Love the Coopers, Simon Pegg’s Man Up, Drew Barrymore’s Miss You Already, Mark Wahlberg’s Mojave, and Michael Caine’s Youth. The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting will attend the screening of Burning Bodhi, this year’s Austin Film Festival Centerpiece Film. Austin will be represented in the festival by the likes of Booger Red, Jack’s Apocalypse, A Single Frame, and The Teller and the Truth. There also will retrospective screenings of Boyz n the Hood, Lone Star, Pleasantville, Rudy, The Shining, and The Southerner. The Austin Film Festival will honor actor Chris Cooper, Legend director Brian Helgeland, Boyz n the Hood director John Singleton, and TV writer/producer Norman Lear. The Austin Film Festival Conference, which runs Oct. 29 through Nov. 1, includes conversations with Charles Burnett, Chris Cooper, Simon Kinsberg, Norman Lear, Jason Reitman, Gary Ross, John Singleton, and David Wain as well as panels dedicated to Animal House, Black Swan, Chocolat, The Fugitive, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and the TV shows Breaking Bad, Daredevil, and Empire. The festival's creative director Erin Hallagan and film program coordinator Harrison Glaser join senior film programmer Liz Mims during this interview.
