2019 Texas Film Awards
Presented by the Austin Film Society, the 2019 Texas Film Awards will be held will be held 6 p.m. March 7 at the AFS Cinema. Comedian Marc Maron and his Sword of Trust writer/director/actress Lynn Shelton will emcee. Austin-based actress Brooklyn Decker, who has appeared in the Andrew Bujalski films Results and Support the Girls and currently costars in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, will receive the Rising Star Award. Writer/screenwriter John Lee Hancock, a Longview, Texas native, receive the Star of Texas Award for his films The Rookie, The Alamo, The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Founder. Hancock’s new film, the Kevin Costner-Woody Harrelson thriller The Highwaymen, will screen during this year’s SXSW Film Festival. Writer/director Mike Judge will accept the Star of Texas award for his Austin-short comedy Office Space, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. There also will be a 20th anniversary screening of Office Space, with Mike Judge and cast members Ron Livingston, Gary Cole, and David Herman in attendance, at 7:30 p.m. March 6 at the Paramount Theatre.
