Interview:
Hillary Pierce,
producer,
"The River and the Wall"
Produced by the Austin-based producer Hillary Pierce, the documentary The River and the Wall chronicles the 1,200-mile journey along the U.S.-Mexico border director Ben Masters undertakes with a small team that includes fellow wildlife filmmaker Filipe Deandrade, ornithologist Heather Mackey, conservationist Jay Kleberg, and river guide Austin Alvarado. The team’s goal is to capture the beauty of the landscapes that would be irrevocably altered and/or harmed by President Trump’s planned contiguous border wall. They travel for months from El Paso to the Gulf of Mexico by bike, foot, horse, and raft, interviewing concerned residents, activists, ranchers, and politicians—notably then-Congressman Beto O’Rourke, Congressman Will Hurd—along the way. The River and the Wall will screen during the SXSW Film Festival at 11 a.m. March 12 at the Alamo Ritz and 11:15 a.m. March 15 at the Paramount Theatre. Hillary Pierce previously served as the coordinating producer for the 2016 documentaries Tower and A Song for You: The Austin City Limits Story.
