Directed by Adriane McCray, the narrative short Child Runaways finds three sisters left home alone when their parents leave town for the weekend. The eldest sister may be left in charge but her younger sisters have no intention of remaining stuck in the house for three days, not when the fate of the family hangs in the balance. Child Runaways will screen at 7 p.m. July 18 at the AFS Cinema as part of the encore screening of the AFS Member ShortCase 2022. The program, which features seven short films made by Austin Film Society members, originally screened as part of this year’s SXSW Film Festival Community Screening series. Adriane McCray, who split her time between Austin and Dallas, previously wrote and directed the narrative short Committed. She also has served as a writers assistant for the TV series Sweet Tooth, Naomi, and Perry Mason.
Aired: July 12, 2022.
